Do speak against the anointed!

00:24 Monday Feb 2, 2015

Be careful of those who tell us “do not speak against the anointed of God”—meaning the leader(s) of the church.

First of all, this is a mistranslation of the following verse:

15 “Do not touch my anointed ones;
do my prophets no harm.”

~ Psalm 105:15 (NIV)

The operative words here are ‘touch’ and ‘harm’—not ‘speak’. David spoke publically against Saul, but never touched him. The prophets Samuel and Nathan spoke regularly against the Kings.

15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord. ~ Proverbs 17:15 (KJV)

The Apostle Paul spoke openly and scathingly about the Apostle Peter – who was said to be the head of the church at the time. Surely, this was very bad—as he not only spoke against the ‘anointed of the Lord’, but also spoke against the teaching of his elder and his leader, the one he was accountable to.

11 But when Cephas [Peter] came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of certain men from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he [began] to withdraw and hold himself aloof, fearing the party of the circumcision. 13 And the rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy ~ Galatians 2:11-13

Closing down free communication against injustices is very damaging to someone’s heart and an abomination to the Lord. How can you counsel someone who has been hurt by a church leader—potentially even physically abused or raped—that they are not allowed to talk about it with anyone?

This is where cults come from—so beware.

However, Jesus gave us a pattern for dealing with people who have gone astray.

15 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. ~ Matthew 18:15-17 (NIV)

So we do not start by talking behind someone’s back (gossip) or standing up in church and accusing someone openly. Instead, talk to them in private—and be willing to hear what they have to say.

Also, who is God’s anointed? Are we not all filled with the same Holy Spirit? Are we all, who are the Body of Christ, not anointed? Is one of the members of the body more important than the others?

Remember, God is no respecter of persons:

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: ~ Acts 10:34 (KJV)

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” ~ John 3:8

So often in our ministry we feel like we are blown on the wind - not knowing what new and exciting things are going to happen next. Our writing tends to also be the same - blown from one topic to the next.

We wanted an outlet for our thoughts and revelations  - and writings - that would centralise them into one place. So often we are asked about something we are writing or teaching, and we wanted a place we could easily direct people to.
