There was only one commandment that Christ gave us. While he did give us the ‘great commission‘ (Matthew 28:16-20), he only ever gave us one command. Therefore, it seems logical to me that if Jesus only gave us just one commandment, that every Christian should surely study, know and understand this better than anything else - yes? After all, how can you obey a command that you have no idea about?
